10,000 Islands Boat Excursion - 3.5 Hrs
Daily Tours - 9:00 & 1:30
This is a premier learning experience in the Everglades Area and is superb for the entire family... from toddlers to the grandparents. Limited to just six guests, it is a personalized, hands-on eco-adventure. Every day is different in the Everglades and 10,000 Islands so we try to be very flexible and dynamic allowing us to adapt to the day's circumstances. We want to provide you the best experience that we can. The tour may/will include a bit of birding, interacting with dolphins, strolling thru tidal pools, shelling on a remote beach. Your licensed US Coast Guard Captain and Florida Master Naturalist Guide, in a very comfortable power boat, will take you through the mangrove estuary of the coastal Everglades and 10,000 Islands. You will learn about the area as a whole - its unique ecosystems, as well as, it's rich heritage and culture. You may to encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, roseate spoonbills and/or numerous species of fish and shore birds.
Once we reach a remote barrier island destination, you will leave the power boat for a hands-on experience on the island's beaches, tidal pools and inter-tidal zones. Shelling on these beaches is awesome as they can only be reached with a boat. With your assistance, we use supple seine nets to temporarily and humanely capture samples of the wonderfully diverse critters that call this zone home. Magnifying viewing devices are used to view, examine and identify the various species before they are carefully released. For parents and grandparents wanting an active role as educators, our naturalists guides will facilitate the experience and help you be the instructor. The seine activity is a wonder hands-on, multigenerational experience that will have you wading in thigh deep waters (if you actively participate)! Your guide will discuss the day's possibilities with you. However, if there is something that you specifically wish to do or NOT to do, please let your guide know. This tour was developed from our experiential student courses for home school groups, high schools and colleges. This is a learning adventure for the entire family. Departing at 9:00 and 1:30, please expect the excursion to be approximately 3½ hours in duration. The cost is $129.95 per adult with children under twelve, ½ price. Reservations are required, so please call us at (239)-695-3633 for more information or to make your reservation.
